Each bar contains gold from a single mine only, ensuring clear origin and full physical traceability. Every ingot is unique, as it is produced in small quantities for us by carefully selected refining and casting partners.

Taxation
Under German VAT laws, this article is classified as investment gold and is, therefore, exempt from VAT for consumers (§ 25c UStG).

About Single Mine Origin (SMO) Gold
Single Mine Origin (SMO) Gold is a sourcing model for gold from responsible large-scale mining (LSM), developed by the Betts Group. Fairever is the distributor for SMO Gold products in the EU.
What it requires is specific:
- Full traceability to a single, named mine: every batch is refined separately, with an externally audited chain of custody through an LBMA-accredited refinery.
- Recognized responsible-mining benchmarks: partner mines are measured against the Responsible Gold Mining Principles (RGMPs) of the World Gold Council, the IRMA Standard for Responsible Mining, and the ICMM Mining Principles, and publish externally audited ESG data every year.
- Best-in-class selection: partner mines are chosen through a comprehensive global benchmarking assessment and rank among the top performers in their class – some leading on social criteria, others on environmental performance.
- No fixed premium, unlike Fairtrade or Fairmined: impact comes through scale – local investment, safe employment, exemplary practices, and community programs, backed by the mines' own ESG programs and the SMO Foundation.
Independent auditors verify the mines against these standards, and the segregated refining is audited too. We also visit our partner mines ourselves on a regular basis, to see the standards and their impact firsthand.
SMO Gold is currently sourced primarily from the Bellevue Mine in Western Australia and the Sabodala Mine in Senegal.
SMO Gold applies to large-scale mining only.
About Fairtrade
Fairtrade is a product seal that certifies gold and silver from responsible artisanal and small-scale mining organizations with the objective of bringing about positive change, promoting sustainable socio-economic development, ensuring environmental protection, and giving everyone access to responsibly mined gold. It is also well known for the certification of other products such as coffee and cocoa.
The Fairtrade certification system is secured by independent, accredited auditing organizations such as FLOCERT. The entire supply chain is audited, including all companies working with and making claims about Fairtrade Gold and Fairtrade Silver, from the mine to all the finished pieces of jewelry.
