Fairmined Gold: Origin, Certification, and Social Impact
The gold for this Fairmined gold wire was mined by Fairmined certified mining organizations in Peru and Colombia. All of the mines have strict policies on the use of chemicals or work with gravitational methods instead.
The gold is Fairmined certified, ensuring responsible mining practices. A $4,000 USD premium per kilogram of pure gold is paid directly to the mining cooperatives, supporting improved working conditions, fair wages, education, and healthcare.

The difference between Fairtrade Gold Wire and Fairmined Gold Wire is the certification system used to certify that the gold was sourced responsibly from artisanal and small-scale mining organizations.
Fairmined focuses specifically on the mining aspect of precious metals, ensuring responsible and ethical mining practices that benefit miners and their communities. On the other hand, Fairtrade encompasses a broader range of products and focuses on fair prices, labor conditions, and environmental standards throughout the supply chain, including mining, processing, and trading. Both initiatives aim to promote sustainability and social responsibility, and their Standards for Gold are built around the same four pillars: social development, environmental protection, organizational development, and working conditions.
It is easy to register online as a Fairmined licensed brand. This is necessary as soon as you would like to publicly promote your use of Fairmined certified gold and silver, such as when you would like to use the Fairmined logo on your website or on jewelry pieces.
The delivery note mentions the certification for all products. In addition, a separate label on our product packaging confirms the certification. As a Fairmined licensee, you can create your own certificates for your Fairmined jewelry pieces.
Our pricing of the Fairmined Gold Wire consists of 3 components:
- Current Gold Market Price
- Premium
- Fairmined Social Premium
1. Current Gold Market Price
The gold market price, also known as the spot price, represents the current value of gold per ounce traded in the global market. It is influenced by various factors including supply and demand dynamics, economic indicators, geopolitical tensions, and investor sentiment. The spot price serves as a benchmark for pricing gold-related products and is continuously fluctuating based on market conditions.
2. Premium
The premium includes the costs associated with logistics, production, distribution, and marketing, as well as the additional costs that come along with trading Fairtrade gold products, such as auditing costs and separate administration. Ultimately, the premium reflects the higher production costs due to the small amounts of Fairtrade gold products in the market relative to conventional gold products.
3. Fairmined Premium
The Fairmined premium is an additional amount paid to miners who adhere to Fairmined standards for responsible and ethical mining practices. It is intended to support community development projects; environmental conservation efforts, and improve the livelihoods of miners and their families.
Sourcing responsibly usually comes with a lot of questions.
