Located in a Tropical Forest

The mining organization Iquira is located in the southwest of Colombia in the Department of Huila. In the middle of Colombia‘s coffee-growing areas, it is operated as a classic underground mine.

Iquira's full name already reveals a special feature. „Multiactiva“ means that the employees pursue several activities. They alternate as needed between working in artisanal mining and working on the coffee plantation.

Tradition vs. New Income Possibilities

While working on the coffee plantations has been a source of livelihood for many generations, gold mining is still a fairly recent endeavor, having only become relevant in the 2000s with increasing demand.
