Located in a Tropical Forest

The mining organization Iquira is located in the south-west of Colombia in the Department of Huila. In the middle of Colombia‘s coffee growing areas it is operated as a classic underground mine. 

Coffee Farmers and Gold Miners

Iquira's full name already reveals a special feature. „Multiactiva“ means that the employees pursue several activities. They alternate as needed between working in artisanal mining and working on the coffee plantation.

Tradition vs. New Income Possibilites

While working on the coffee plantations has been a source of livelihood for many generations, gold mining is still a fairly recent endeavor, having only become relevant in the 2000s with increasing demand.
