To celebrate the 80th anniversary of "D'Maus Ketti", the Central Bank of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is issuing a very special gold coin: the second Fairtrade-certified gold coin in the world! The gold for the coin comes from Fairtrade-certified artisanal and small-scale mining organizations in Peru.
D'Maus Ketti is the most famous work by the Luxembourg writer Auguste Liesch. The story, told in verse form, is based on a fable by the famous Greek poet Aesop about the city and field mouse and was published in 1936.
Product data: The minted commemorative coin made of 99.9 % fine gold with 1/10 ounce (3.11 grams) fine weight is a beautiful reminder of a special date for Luxembourg. The gold coin with the preservation grade polished plate (PP) has a diameter of 16 mm and a height of 1,05 mm. The face value of the coin is 10 Euro - but the pure material and collector's value is of course many times higher. (For comparison: The well-known gold coin "Wiener Philharmoniker" of 1/10 ounce also has a face value of 10 Euros).
Certification: In addition to the well-known Fairtrade certification, the gold coin also has a Fairmined certification. This label, which was specially developed for ethical and responsible mining, is awarded by the recognised non-profit organization Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM).
Fair gold: Workers in artisanal and small-scale mining organizations in Peru receive the guaranteed Fairtrade minimum price of 95 % of the London gold price and a combined Fairtrade & Fairmined premium of 4,000 USD/kg of gold. This additional payment must be invested according to democratic principles in community projects such as schools and health centres. Fairtrade and Fairmined are committed to improving the protection of people and the environment in mining. For example, the certification stipulates protective clothing and health and safety training. Child labour is prohibited in the certified gold mines.
Circulation: This coin was emitted in a strictly limited edition of only 3,000 pieces. It is therefore a real rarity with a colloctor's value!
Packaging: You receive the gold coin in a coin capsule, placed in a noble dark red-brown wooden case. The case worth 20 Euros is included in the price.
Taxation: This article is classified as "investment gold" according to the German sales tax law and is therefore exempt from sales tax for consumers (§ 25c UStG).
The story of D'Maus Ketti: Ketti, the field mouse, lives in simple circumstances in a field in Burmerange when one day she is visited by her rich cousin Mim from Clausen. Ketti prepares her cousin a hearty meal - but she is disappointed by the simple kitchen and begins to rave about delicious food. Mim invites Ketti to accompany her to the city of Luxembourg. In the city, the two sneak into a house and make their way over a laid table. Suddenly tomcat Tunn appears with his girlfriend. They try to catch the two mice - they can flee at the last moment. Ketti, the field mouse, lives through mortal fears and decides to immediately return to her home in Burmerange. She prefers to lead a simple life with simple food rather than live in abundance, but in daily fear. (Source: Wikipedia)
